Georgetown, Upper Corentyne open round 7 clash

GCB/Jaguars 3-Day League Round 7

Upper Corentyne and Georgetown will do battle much earlier than expected when they open the seventh and final round of the GCB/Jaguars 3-Day Franchise League today at the Port Mourant Ground.

Ashmead Nedd

Statistic-wise, both sides are almost evenly poised with Upper Corentyne sitting in 5th place and Georgetown lingering in 6th. They both recorded two wins each from the six previous rounds with Georgetown losing 3 of their games compared to their opponents who have only lost two.
However, overall, the race will be a stiff one as the Ancient County franchise enter this round with 58 points compared to Georgetown who trail by 6 points on 52. In the last round Upper Corentyne easily disposed of East Bank by 87 runs compliments of a good all-round team performance.
Kandasammy Surujnarine who scored 150 and Balchand Baldeo who has a few fifties under his belt are a few of the players Georgetown will need to look out for while their bowlers in Eon Hooper, Shawn Perreira and Clinton Pestano have been among the wickets regularly.

Gajanan Suknanan

From a Georgetown Perspective, since the departure of a few of their top players like Leon Johnson, Chris Barnwell, Ramaal Lewis and Robin Bacchus, their franchise’s form has dipped a bit especially in the last round where they went down by 8 wickets to West Berbice.
Georgetown’s batting has been a bit soft throughout the competition, especially with the loss of their big guns. However, their real trump card lies in their bowling department and should Upper Corentyne look to brush aside the town team, they will need to be weary of spinners Ashmead Nedd and Gajanan Suknanan who have been in ripping form as well as skipper Paul Wintz who’s experience will

come into play.
Both teams desperately need a win to boost their rankings despite their chances of winning the tile being slim. The match bowls off at 9:30h while the other three matches in round seven are expected to bowl off from Friday.
