The Guyana Empowered Peoples Action Network (GEPAN) with support from A&R Cosmetics and private contributors hosted a Christmas party for 70 children in Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
The organisation wanted to give children below the age of 10 from modest homes, an opportunity to socialise and have fun as part of our efforts to add cheer to this Christmas season.
To make it a success, GEPAN teamed up with local businesswoman Anjelique Temaul and a neighbourhood church to mobilise families. Goodie-bags with beverages, cupcakes, biscuits, sweets and toys were handed out to participants.
The children enjoyed face-painting and trampoline activities in presence of organisation members and parents. The party lasted for three hours, lighting up the faces of children and parents who shared in the excitement of the afternoon.
Families that participated in the event originate from Linden as well as neighbouring Amerindian communities. Because some were unable to attend due to travel expenses, packages will be delivered at their homes.
Project Coordinator Anna Campbell-Persaud, who was in charge of the activity, conveyed the organisation’s best wishes for the Christmas season to the gathering. She explained that the event was one which fell within the ambit of GEPAN’s work in impoverished, rural communities, as they sought to highlight the challenges faced by the lesser privileged and give back to those who need it most.
