GFA Knockout tournament: North Stars romp to victory as semi-final spots decided

The group stage of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Nalico/Nafico Senior Men’s Knockout Tournament concluded on Tuesday evening at the Plaisance Community Ground with North Stars and Vengy Football Club (FC) securing important results ahead of the semi-final round.
North Stars produced the more dominant performance of the night, defeating Motherland FC 4–1 behind a hat-trick from Charles Chester. Shaquan Deen handed North Stars the advantage in the eighth minute before Lonsdale George equalised for Motherland in the 24th minute.
However, Chester quickly shifted momentum back in North Stars’ favour with two goals in the space of three minutes, scoring in the 27th and 30th minutes to give his side a comfortable 3–1 lead at halftime. He later completed his hat-trick in the 60th minute to seal the victory.
In the other encounter, Vengy FC booked their place in the semi-finals after battling to a scoreless draw against Pele FC. The result was enough to see Vengy advance from Group Four, while Pele were eliminated from contention.
The tournament featured 12 teams divided into four groups of three, with only the group winners advancing to the semi-finals, which are scheduled for Thursday, May 7, at the same venue.
According to the final standings, East Veldt FC topped Group One with four points and a goal difference of six after recording one win and one draw. Camptown FC finished second on four points as well but with an inferior goal difference, while Northern Ranger FC ended without a point.
Group Two was dominated by Riddim Squad FC, who secured a maximum of six points from two matches and a goal difference of eight. Order and Discipline FC finished second on three points, while Genesis ended pointless.
Beacon FC emerged winners of Group Three with six points from two victories. North Stars FC finished second on three points despite Tuesday’s win over Motherland FC, who lost both of their matches.
In Group Four, Vengy FC advanced with four points following one win and one draw. Black Pearl FC finished second with one point, while Pele FC also ended on one point but with an inferior goal difference.
The semi-final fixtures will see Eastveldt take on Beacon FC in the first semi-final tonight at 19:00h, while Riddim Squad will take on Vengy in the second semi-final at 21:00h.
The third-place playoff and final are set for Saturday, May 9, at the same venue.
