GHDS hosts Phagwah Mela on Essequibo Coast

The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha held its Annual Phagwah Mela on Sunday at the Anna Regina Community Centre Ground in Region 2 (Pomeroon-Supenaam).
In his brief remarks, former Minister of Culture Youth and Sports Dr Frank Anthony reminded those gathered that Phagwah is to overcome evil and restore good and urged residents to celebrate with peace, love and unity.
Regional Chairman Davanand Ramdatt also called for peace and unity to prevail.
President of the Essequibo Coast Praant of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha, Pandit Kedar Prakash in his welcoming remarks said that as Guyanese celebrate the colourful festival, let the many colours remind us of peace, prosperity and happiness among humanity.
Essequibians turned out as usual in their numbers to celebrate this annual event. The entire ground was transformed into a colourful arena as residents renewed their relationships with each other, and for some, made new friends.
The event is sponsored yearly by Parmal Singh, his wife Ramrattie Singh, both residents of Anna Regina who migrated to the USA and have committed themselves to give back to Essequibians by sponsoring the event on an annual basis. Seven curry and other sweetmeats were in abundance.
