GLTA under new management

The reins of control of the Guyana Lawn Tennis Association (GLTA) have changed hands after the tenure of past President Jamal Goodluck came to an end. In the race for the presidency of the GLTA, Samuel Barakat overcame William Skeete to become head of this very active body. “Happy to be elected, and thanks to everyone for their support; and I look forward to working with everyone to take tennis to higher heights, not only on the local scene, but to be more competitive regionally,” Barakat said after winning the elections.
Having served on the GLTA Board for a number of years, wherein he played a key role in hosting the Inter Guiana Games lawn tennis championships held in Guyana last year, the new President also shared that he is keen on improving the work of the GLTA and introducing new initiatives to the sport.
With support of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA), the International Tennis Federation (ITF), and the Central American and Caribbean Tennis Confederation (COTECC), there is expected to be expansion of the player pool; frequent tournaments; coaching clinics, and development of existing clubs.
The newly elected executive committee comprises: Cristy Campbell as Vice President; Robin Singh as Second Vice President; Molly Hassan as Secretary; Ramesh Seebaran as Treasurer; Tina Ram as Assistant Treasurer; William Skeete as Assistant Secretary/Treasurer; Grace McCalman as Life member; and Jason Andrews, Dellon Fraser, Nigel Niles, and Illeana Boodhoo as Committee members.
