Gold miner remanded on drug charge

A gold miner on Monday appeared before Magistrate Annette Singh to answer to the charge of trafficking in narcotics.
Akeem Lashley, 20, of Lot 83 Duke Street, Kingston, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on April 9, 2016, he had in his possession 18 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking. Defence Attorney Paul Fung-A-Fat requested bail for his client, but the prosecution objected.
The prosecution’s objection was upheld and Lashley was remanded to prison. The case will continue on May 3.
