Golden Star pumped for tonight’s quarter-final

Golden Star FC has qualified for the knock out stage of the Berbice Football Association (BFA) GT Beer, Candy Boss 8-a-side football tournament. Golden Star outplayed arch-rivals Mahaica Determinators 4-2 on Friday evening at the All Saints School Ground on Princess Elizabeth Road, New Amsterdam, Berbice.
Golden Star only needed a draw to qualify but Mahaica were looking for a win by three goals to make it through.
In the first minute of play, Stephen Reynolds put Golden Star ahead but goals from Kirt Roberts in the 25 minute and Eion Abel in the 30 sent Mahaica into the lead.
However, Sunil Logan scored the equalized seconds before the halftime whistle putting the pressure back on Mahaica.

Monedderlust FC will be looking for a semi-final spot

In the second half, Golden Star went on an all-out defense and as the minutes went by Mahaica started to panic and Golden Star got two more goals in the last three minutes of play.
Aley Mahaica and Ryan Hackett were the goal scorers.
In the second match of the tipple header, Corriverton Links recorded their first points in the competitions when they held Mahaicony FC to a 2-2 draw.
Corwin Lester netted a double for Corriverton Links while David Browne and David Cameron scored for Mahaicony FC.
The Referee, Micha Erskine had little work to do when Young Strikers and Republican FC met in 50 minutes of play time which ended 0-0.
Meanwhile, in tonight’s quarterfinal action, see Monedderlust of Number Five take on Arsenal and Beacon FC will do battle with Golden Star for a semifinal spot.
Monedderlust will be seeking to continue their unbeaten recorded while Arsenal will be looking to use the home advantage.
The second match of the evening is expected to be even more exciting which will see the unbeaten Beacon FC and the swift-moving layers from Golden Star.
The competition will continue at the same venue on Friday when GT Police meet the Black Sharks FC of Fyrish and Edinburgh Gunners after winning all their games will face the strong Rosignol United.
The winner of the competition will walk away with $500,000 while the second place team will receive $300,000. Monetary prizes will also be awarded to the third and fourth place finishers.
