Goldsmith kills self after admitting he has “feelings” for daughter-in-law

An argument between a man and his wife over the romantic feelings he reportedly developed for their daughter-in-law took a turn for the worst after he allegedly took his life by consuming a poisonous substance.
The deceased has been identified as 47-year-old Deodat (only name given), a goldsmith of Waller’s Delight, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
Based on reports received, Deodat and his wife, Nandranie, were at their home on Sunday afternoon when they began arguing over his behaviour towards their daughter-in-law.
Their daughter-in-law had reportedly complained to Deodat’s wife about the man making advances towards her. As such, the woman confronted her husband.
This resulted in a heated argument between the couple during which the man admitted that he had feelings for his daughter-in-law.
Shortly after, Deodat’s wife went to work.
Around 14:45h, the woman received a phone call from her husband urgently requesting that she returned home. As the woman arrived at their residence, the man informed her that he was going to commit suicide.
Moments after making that statement, he ventured into the kitchen and locked the door so that nobody could enter. This prompted his wife to rush outside of the house and peek through a window to ascertain what her husband was up to.
The woman told detectives that she noticed Deodat with a ketchup bottle containing a solution to clean gold jewellery.
After consuming the substance, he opened the door, placed the ketchup bottle on the ground, and immediately collapsed.
He was rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH), where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The ketchup bottle with the poisonous substance that he had placed on the ground before his death was also lodged at the Police Station as investigations continue.
