Home Sports Golf Association continues ‘gift of giving’ tradition
The Guyana Golf Association (GGA) and Nexgen Golf Academy (NGA) will this Sunday host their annual event to raise funds for the Enmore Orphanage.
This time, it is a Curry-Q which starts from 11am. This novel idea was proposed by Ramesh Dookhoo of Banks DIH and Christopher Ram of Ram & McRae accounting firm, and it represents a break from the traditional meals offered to fundraisers.
The Curry-Q will have four types of curry: mutton, chicken, duck and vegetable, prepared by some of the best cooks and served hot from the pot with rice, dhal puri, dhal, salad, a Banks beverage, and lots of optional pepper sauce!
Nexfen Golf Academy Coaches Avinash Persaud and Dr Joaan Deo will be on hand to give supporters of the Curry-Q a chance to play or learn the game at the Academy for half an hour, with a chance to win prizes at no additional cost!
Enmore Orphanage Director Kenneth Finlayson has said, “This is a time of year that our kids look forward to something special, and we are thankful for the constant support from Mr Hussain and the golfing community.”
Several entities, such as the Maraiko Bay Resorts, Hits & Jams 98.1 Real Radio, the Guyana Critic, Toolsie Persaud Limited, Assuria General Insurance Company, New Trend Auto, AR Printery, Banks DIH, Crown Mining, the Shafura Hussain Foundation, and Panko Steel, have already thrown their support behind this activity, which combines the response to a worthy cause with a day of fun for families in a socially distanced environment.
Tickets for the event are available at the Nexgen Golf Academy, Scouts Association of Guyana ground on Woolford Avenue, Georgetown; or at the offices of the Assuria General Insurance Company located at the Giftland Mall, Church Street Georgetown, Diamond or Vreed-en-Hoop; or by calling 645-0944 to make reservation.
GGA President Aleem Hussain has said this is the continuation of support for the Enmore Orphanage, home over the years to more than 100 youths ranging in ages from 3 to 20 years old.
“We have been blessed with a fantastic year of growth for the sport of Golf, with more than 450 new persons taking part in learning and playing in just four months. The Guyana Golf Association, with the support of Mr Nicholas Fraser of the Ministry of Education, Allied Arts Division, will launch a pilot programme to introduce Golf into secondary schools, and the response from PE teachers has been absolutely mind-blowing!”
The fully lighted Academy and Driving Range is COVID-guidelines-compliant, provides a socially distanced environment, and is open daily from 9am to 8pm. Prices to learn the game start from as low as $500/hour, and include unlimited balls and equipment.
