– as $5.9B invested in housing development since 2020
With an investment of $5.924 billion in housing development across Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) between 2020 and 2026, the Government is working to clear the housing backlog by 90 per cent by 2027.

The investment, made through the Housing Ministry’s Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA), has supported the development of new housing schemes and critical infrastructure, significantly increasing access to house lots while enhancing roads, utilities, and other essential services for thousands of families.
This reinforces the Government’s commitment to expanding homeownership opportunities and improving communities throughout the region.
According to a report by the Department of Public Information (DPI), areas such as Charity, Onderneeming, and Hoff Van Aurich have already seen major investments. These include roads, drainage networks, and essential infrastructure developed to support existing and future homeowners.
The largest investment thus far was in 2025, when more than $3.45 billion was allocated for infrastructure works at Onderneeming Phase Four, Hoff Van Aurich, and road upgrades, benefiting an estimated 4600 residents.
However, a further $440 million has been earmarked for 2026 to continue infrastructure development and road upgrades in the region.
The Government has also allocated 1693 house lots in the region between 2021 and May 2026, benefiting approximately 6000 persons. As of December 2025, the region had a backlog of 2523 applications.
Meanwhile, the Housing Ministry is moving to address the remaining backlog. Currently, more than 4300 new lots are being developed in areas including Hoff Van Aurich, Onderneeming, Richmond, Charity, and the rear of Cullen and Perseverance.
The Government has also processed more than 200 certificates of title and transports and allocated 117 informal lots, giving hundreds of families greater security of tenure and a better chance at homeownership.
Back in May, Vice President (VP) Dr Bharrat Jagdeo had residents that the Government is aggressively moving to address housing challenges and announced that all eligible applicants are expected to receive house lots within the 18 months.
He had also explained that one of the major challenges currently facing the housing sector is the limited availability of land. However, he noted that the Government has already taken steps to address this constraint by actively purchasing additional lands to facilitate expansion.
According to the VP, these newly acquired lands will be used to develop the necessary infrastructure, including roads and utilities, to support the establishment of new housing schemes. This, he said, will ensure that more Guyanese can benefit from house lot allocations in a timely manner.
He also assured residents that by the end of 2027, the housing situation will see marked improvement, as the Government continues to respond to the growing demand and work towards ensuring that every eligible applicant has access to land for housing.
