GRC commences 3-day silent auction

The Guyana Relief Council (GRC) on Wednesday commenced the first of three days of silent auctions at the Pegasus Hotel in aide of persons who have suffered unfortunate disasters.

The GRC which was founded since 1994, continues to bring relief to victims across the country despite minimum funding from the State over the years.

Chairwoman of the organisation, Yvonne Hinds, speaking to Guyana Times stated that the three-day silent auction will be the organisation’s last fundraising activity for this year.

“This is the Guyana Relief Council’s final fundraising for the year; we also have a table where we sell, we also call it a cash and carry. But the silent auction is where we place a bid sheet on the items with the minimal bid so persons can bid

upwards,” stated Hinds.

She further explained that the successful bidders will become aware of their status on the third day of the silent auction.

In addition to the silent auction, a cash and carry table is in place for persons who wish to purchase and go.

Hinds continued that the motto of the organisation, which is “caring and sharing”, is practiced all through the year and not only during the Christmas season.

“Our motto is caring and sharing, so we do that throughout the year, we do not wait for the Christmas season to do the caring and sharing thing. The Council throughout the year helps people who have disasters or who are homeless or who have become poor due to a disaster,” Hinds stated.

The Chairwoman further added that the organisation’s intervention is customised to suit individual or family needs.

Meanwhile, Hinds is seeking the public’s help in lending support to the Council to assist the needy.

“When you help the Council, you are helping persons in need and we ask you that when you are donating please donate things that are ready to use, not to wash and stitch,” said Hinds.
