– RAN’s North vs South Championships
Guyana’s National 15s Rugby team (The Green Machine )will take on USA South Panthers today in the RAN’s (Rugby America’s North) North vs South Championship Final from 14:00hrs in the National Park.
While Guyana had defeated the same opposition in Atlanta in 2014 to claim their maiden championship via their Captain Ryan Gonsalves’ historic penalty kick, the Green Machine will be looking for the two-peat in front of fans on home soil.
The locals have been hard at work on the technical aspect of their game as they are well aware of the USA South Panthers game strategy and physical fitness.
Gonsalves has urged fans to come out in their numbers as the crowd support is a very important factor to the team.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday Gonsalves had pointed out; “With having a huge crowd support at home, it really brings out the best in you as a player. You want to play and do your best in front of your home crowd. What goes for me goes for everyone in the team as well, they feel the same about playing home,” Gonsalves said.
“We are more happy to be playing the USA South Panthers here at home rather than to be playing Mexico at home in Mexico. Actually, this is a bonus for us, and we’re going to use it to the best of our advantage, and we really look forward to Saturday’s game,” the captain added.
