GSL to project Guyana to over 40 countries – Stewart

Beginning tomorrow morning, the Guyana National Stadium at Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD), will be a hive of activity as the ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSL) takes centre stage.
Now in its third edition, the tournament will see five T20 franchises from around the world battling for a US$1 million prize purse.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, ExxonMobil GSL Director Jamie Stewart noted that preparation came together well.
“It’s all come together really well. Ticket sales have been really strong; the first two Warriors matches should be a full house and the energy that everyone has come to expect here. The teams have started to land in Guyana; we had a few players come in early and see some of the amazing sights that the country has to offer,” Stewart told media operatives.
He added, “They’re all here to win; there’s a million dollars on the line.”
Stewart went on to expound on how the tournament has been providing opportunities for locals.
The GSL Director explained, “Particularly with GSL being a Guyana-born and -bred event, it really needs to leave a legacy, and it needs to, as much as possible, create opportunities for Guyanese people, and it’s also about demonstrating to the world what Guyana could do and achieve.”

“We’ve worked very hard on providing opportunities to people; knowledge transfer.”, Stewart shared, going on to reference the “Face of the GSL” broadcast competition, the sport photography internship on offer and the upcoming sport development seminar with Deakin University. “We’re very excited about that and glad that that’s happening.”
As such, the GSL Director touched on the magnitude of the tournament’s vision, highlighting that it will broadcast Guyana to over 40 countries around the world.
“It’s a very happy thing that Guyana has come into a lot of wealth, natural resource wealth. It’s given the country the ability and resources to dream big and aspire to do great things,” Stewart shared. “I think from a sporting front, you’re seeing that already with the car races and bringing basketball here, and I think the pinnacle event is the Global Super League.”
“It’s projecting Guyana to over 40 countries live; the telecast is going to do so. It’s a massive advertisement for Guyana, what’s happening in Guyana, what Guyana can do, and what Guyana can produce. Guyana is also now able to produce international-class sports events. So, it’s a very exciting time,” he further noted.
The ExxonMobil Guyana GSL gets underway with a clash between the Lahore Qalandars and Perth Scorchers at 10:00h today. That will be followed by a battle between defending champions, Guyana Amazon Warriors and San Francisco Unicorns, at 19:00h.
