GTA trains 27 in business, social media management

The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) has trained 27 Tourism participants, in a one-day business and social media management programme. According to the Tourism Authority, the programme was created for members of the local tourism sector.
The training that was held in a virtual setting on July 27 and 28, and utilized the Zoom platform. The 27 participants were trained in areas of Business Fundamentals, Introduction to Digital Marketing & Social Media Marketing, Understanding Consumer Psychology & Conversational Commerce, Simple Website Development Techniques, Social Media Channel Optimisation (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube), Content Development (Written Content, Visual Content (videos)), Effectively Leveraging Travel Platforms (Trip Advisors, Booking.com), Email Marketing Strategies and Mastering Digital Communication.
The tourism body explained that with the sector being amongst the hardest hit during the COVID-19 pandemic, it is imperative that the local tourism industry makes use of the ever-increasing rise in technology.
“By tapping into this resource-rich pool, businesses will be fully equipped and prepared to maximise their operations and social media presence, among other digital marketing tactics. Existing businesses will be able to adapt and tailor their social media presence while new businesses will be able to build from the ground up”, the GTA stated.
Through the training, GTA’s aim was to foster capacity building within the tourism sector, especially as an incentive for tourism businesses that are licensed or actively in the process of becoming licensed.
The training sessions included participants from Waikin Ranch, Duke Lodge, Beach View Hotel, Tower Suites Hotel, Dagron Tours, Odyssey Sight-Seeing Tours, Sleep Inn International Hotel, Brandsville Hotel, Jaigobin Hotel, Stena Tours, Herdmanston Lodge and THAG.
Meanwhile, Rosh Khan, CEO of SocialRank Media, one of Guyana’s leading digital marketing agencies, and President of the Masterclass Institute led both days of training.
GTA said with persons having to adapt to a more virtual environment, Rosh’s methods of teaching allowed for more participants to attend. The Masterclass Institute is a Training and Development Institute located in Georgetown, Guyana which has trained over 10,000 people through its various programmes, workshops, and courses, including digital marketing.
Moreover, GTA say it remains committed to elevating the tourism sector and will be hosting a series of training programmes throughout 2020.
