A twenty-nine-year-old security guard of Plaisance, East Coast Demerara was on Monday hauled before Georgetown Magistrate Judy Latchman on a charge alleging that he broke and entered the office of the New Thriving Restaurant on Main Street, Georgetown and carted off some .5 million on September 9, 2017.
According to the Police case, Travis Reynolds was working the night shift when the manager secured his office and left the restaurant at around 12:30 hrs. Upon his return the following day, he discovered his office door open and the said money missing.
The matter was reported to the Police, leading to the arrest of the accused, and the present charges were laid against him.
Reynolds was represented by Defence Counsel Paul Fung-A-Fat, who denied that the accused had any knowledge of the offence, and alleged he was beaten by the Police at Brickdam Station in their failed attempt to secure a confession.
When the Magistrate questioned what evidence the police have against the accused, Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves replied that Reynolds is employed by the establishment for the mere purpose of protection, and the premises were broken into “under his watch”.
The accused was released on $60,000 bail after the Prosecution failed to object to same, and the case is set for continuation on October 2, 2017.
