A firearm and several rounds of ammunition were discovered during a Police operation at Red Road, Sophia, Greater Georgetown, on Tuesday evening, leading to the arrest of two persons.
The discovery was made around 17:45h during a mobile patrol in the area by ranks of Regional Division 4 A, according to Police. Information revealed that ranks were on patrol when they observed a white Toyota Allion motor car proceeding in the opposite direction in a manner described as “suspicious”.
The vehicle was signalled to stop by Police; however, the driver reportedly failed to comply and continued driving, prompting a pursuit. The motor car was subsequently intercepted further north on Red Road, Sophia, where the driver, a 32-year-old vendor of D Field, Sophia, and a 40-year-old female passenger of D’Urban Street, Lodge, were seen.
The driver was immediately arrested and escorted, along with the vehicle, to the Turkeyen Police Station.
A search conducted on the motorcar in his presence led to the discovery of a black ski mask containing a silver and black. 380 Lorcin pistol, along with seven rounds of .380 ammunition.
The firearm and ammunition were seized and lodged as investigators continued their probe. The female passenger initially left the scene as a crowd gathered but was later contacted by investigators and subsequently arrested.
Both suspects remain in custody, assisting with investigations.
