Gun, ganja, cash unearthed during CANU, Police operations

Agents of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) during an operation at Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara (ECD), on Thursday, unearthed two shotguns, a quantity of ganja and an undisclosed sum of foreign currency.
CANU in a statement related that the operation was conducted based on intelligence gathering.
On the day in question, the drug enforcement officials swooped down on an empty camp where they found the firearms, 822 grams of cannabis and the cash.
“No one was arrested since the camp was empty, though several tracks were seen running from the camp into a nearby savannah which were searched and no one was found,” CANU related.

The items seized were brought to CANU Headquarters for processing.
Meanwhile, also on Thursday, Police ranks conducted a raid exercise in the Grove/Diamond area on the East Bank of Demerara (EBD) where several houses were searched.
A search was conducted on an empty lot at 8th Avenue Diamond during which a quantity of ganja was found among a garbage heap. A 22-year-old man was taken into custody. The cannabis was weighed in his presence and amounted to 516 grams.
