Gunmen raid Reg 7 mining camps; flee with raw gold, cash & loaded firearm

Five armed men carried out a daring robbery at three mining camps in Toroparu Backdam, along the Lower Puruni River in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) on Tuesday, escaping with an undisclosed quantity of raw gold, cash, and a firearm with ammunition.
Based on reports received, the men were masked and armed with rifles and a shotgun. They entered a mining operation owned by a 52-year-old Brazilian miner, where they confronted several workers and forced them to hand over an undisclosed quantity of raw gold.
The suspects subsequently escorted the workers to the main camp, where they relieved them of their cellular phones and initiated an undisclosed sum of cash to be transferred from a bank account belonging to a 34-year-old Brazilian female.
Furthermore, the men also stole an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) before proceeding to two other mining camps in the area.
At one of the camps, the suspects again confronted several workers and disarmed a 26-year-old security officer of his AR semi-automatic rifle, along with 18 rounds of .223 ammunition.
The men also demanded gold and cash from the workers at both camps and physically assaulted them before escaping with the stolen firearm and ammunition.
The matter was reported, and an investigation was launched. The Police have since recovered the stolen ATV in nearby bushes. Investigations are ongoing.
