Just days ago, a miner who hails from Enterprise Squatting Area, East Coast Demerara (ECD), lost his left foot during an armed robbery that occurred at Lago’s Apartment at Apaiqua Landing in the Mazaruni, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
Thirty-one-year-old Tameshwar Sukram was employed by Crown Mining Company. Also, a 42-year-old Brazilian businessman who tried to help the miner during the robbery received chops about his body and had one of his fingers severed.
On the day in question, Sukram was asleep in his apartment when he was awakened by two men, who demanded money. One of the men was armed with a gun, while the other had a cutlass. As the miner refused to comply with the bandits’ demand, they dealt him several chops about his body, during which, his foot was severed.
An alarm was raised after the bandits left, and the two victims were taken to the Isseneru Medical Health Centre, where they were treated. They were both air-dashed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where they are currently patients.
The miner was robbed of $800,000. (G9)
