Gunmen storm, rob Wales supermarket

Two armed bandits executed a daring robbery on the People’s Supermarket at Wales, West Bank Demerara (WBD) on Wednesday evening.
Based on reports received, the robbery occurred about 20:15h and was carried out by two men – both wearing masks and armed with handguns.
Police stated that the owner of the supermarket, 49-year-old Xin Bang Yu, a Chinese national, and his 16-year-old assistant were at the cashier section when the armed men entered the Supermarket and pointed their firearms at their heads.
The two bandits then demanded cash and other valuables. One of the bandits held the owner and employees at gunpoint while the other emptied the cash register which contained about $115,000 in cash. They also took $50,000 worth of phone cards.
After collecting the cash and phone cards, the men made good their escape. An alarm was raised and the Police were contacted.
The ordeal was captured on Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) cameras and the footage is being reviewed by investigators as they continue their investigations.
