A 25-year-old woman of Ruimzeigt, West Coast Demerara (WCD) and her mother were on Wednesday evening attacked and robbed at gunpoint while they were making their way home from church.
Ann McDonald and her mother were attacked and robbed around 19:30h at Concrete Strip, WCD. Reports are that when the church service concluded, McDonald and her mother joined a minibus and then disembarked at the Ruimzeigt Public Road.
The woman took out her phone to use the flashlight to see the path to their home.
However, as they were walking towards their house, the suspect approached them, whipped out a handgun, and instructed them to remain quiet.
The armed bandit then relieved the young woman of some $60,000 in cash and her cellphone worth $80,000. Before making his escape, the perpetrator dealt McDonald’s mother one blow to her head with the gun.
The bandit then joined a waiting motor wagon, and made good his escape. Investigations are ongoing.
