Guyana Carnival set for May 17- 27

– packed week of activities planned

The inaugural Guyana Carnival was officially launched at the Guyana Marriott Hotel on Wednesday and from all indications, Guyanese here and abroad are eagerly awaiting to “Mash up de place”. The Guyana Carnival activities will commence on May 18 and conclude on May 27.
During this time, there are tons of events that are planned to make sure Guyanese and tourists have the most exciting experience of a lifetime. On May 18, Guyana Carnival opens with 4TM, which will see local and international deejays battling for supremacy. That event is followed by the “Come out to play” boat cruise on May 19 featuring local and international deejays.
On Saturday May 20, there will be the “Feteland” boat cruise aback the Marriott Hotel while on the same day, there will be a concept party titled “Touchdown” at a venue to be announced. On Monday, May 21, “Shelldown” will take place with top local and international deejays.
The action continues on May 22, with “Skins Pool Party” to be hosted at Tower Hotel poolside featuring the best deejays in town. On the same day, soca junkies will be treated to live performances by Kees and friends out of Trinidad and Tobago.
On May 23, the boating experience continues with “Friends at Sea” following by “Wet Wednesday” with popular deejays on the consoles. On Thursday, May 24, there will be “Mawning Breakfast” at the Marriott Hotel featuring local and international deejays. As the sun sets on Thursday evening, the parking lot of the Marriott Hotel will come alive with “Tribe Ignite” which will see live performances by Shal Marshall and KI, accompanied by deejays.
On the night before Independence, all roads will lead to the National Park for the J’Ouvert experience, following by the Guyana National Stadium for one of the biggest soca shows called “Revelnation” featuring Bungi Garlin and the King of Soca, Machel Montano. Also on May 25, there will be another concept party titled, “Scorch Duck Work” at a venue to be announced.
On the big day, Independence, the streets of Georgetown are expected to be jammed with people as the Genesis Parade is held with several bands taking to the streets. After a day in the sun, the wash down will take place at “Soca Rave”, featuring Kerwin Dubios, Nilah Blackman, Blaxx, Patrice Roberts and Timeka Marshall.
On the last day of Guyana Carnival, those who want a cool wash down and revive will do so at HJ Water World, Providence, East Bank Demerara. Also, those who wish to suite-up and go on a cruise, can do so as a form of relaxation. Tickets for the various events will be released shortly, so those who wish to get on board can get those tickets early.
