Guyana made history on Saturday with a remarkable third-place finish at the inaugural FIFAe Continental Championship North, Central America and Caribbean (Concacaf) in Mexico City, Mexico.
The historic achievement marked Guyana’s debut appearance at the Continental Championship and represents another significant milestone in the rapid development of football esports in the country.
Guyana’s impressive campaign came to an end following two closely contested semi-final matches against Costa Rica. The first encounter ended in a 1-1 draw before Costa Rica edged the second match 1-0 to advance to the final.
Despite the semi-final defeat, Guyana secured an historic third-place finish, becoming the only English-speaking nation to finish among the tournament’s top three teams.
The achievement further highlights the growing strength and potential of Guyana’s football esports programme on the regional stage.
Head Coach and Head of eSports Martin Massiah described the accomplishment as an important step in the country’s esports journey.
“Football has always given Guyana a reason to dream. Now esports is expanding that dream. Our responsibility is to turn moments like this into a movement, to build the pathways, raise the standard, and ensure that wherever the future of football is being shaped, Guyana has a place in it,” Massiah said.
Guyana was represented in Mexico by members of the National eFootball™ Mobile Squad, Christian Harris (christian89) and Jeremiya Johnson (jrboss2000), along with Massiah and Assistant Coach, Official Streamer and Media Operations Lead Daniel Idal.
The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) commended the entire contingent for its outstanding representation of the country throughout the competition.
From making its debut at the first-ever FIFAe Continental Championship to reaching the semi-finals and claiming third place, Guyana’s historic campaign provides a strong foundation for the continued growth of football esports and establishes the country as an emerging force in the regional eFootball landscape.
