The Guyana Association of Women Lawyers (GAWL) expresses its deepest sorrow at the tragic event of July 18, 2026, involving the MV Barima ferry. We join with our fellow citizens in mourning the lives lost and stand in solidarity with the families and loved ones affected by this devastating incident. As an organisation committed to justice, compassion, and service, we recognise the profound grief that such a tragedy brings. The GAWL extends heartfelt condolences to all who are bereaved and prays for strength and comfort during this time of national mourning. We encourage our fellow Guyanese and those in the diaspora to observe the national days of mourning. GAWL commends the efforts of everyone who has worked tirelessly in the aftermath of this tragedy. Their dedication reflects the resilience and unity of us all in this moment of tragedy. GAWL supports the full, thorough, independent investigation into the incident. We encourage the citizens of Guyana to continue fostering peaceful relations, compassion, and unity.
