Guyana names 44-member delegation for South American Games

Guyana will field a 44-member delegation across eight sporting disciplines at the XIII South American Games in Argentina from September 12 to 26, with several competitions offering qualification opportunities for the 2027 Pan American Games.
The national contingent will compete in Boxing, Athletics, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Archery, Tennis, Esports, and Squash at the Santa Fe 2026 Games, which will be staged across Rosario, Santa Fe, and Rafaela.
Professional tennis player Sachia Vickery is among the notable additions to the team and will make her debut representing Guyana. Her participation adds to the country’s presence at a competition expected to attract more than 4000 athletes from 15 countries.
Approximately 465 events across 43 sports are scheduled for the Games. Beyond the competition for medals, qualification places available in several competitions will give athletes an opportunity to advance towards the 2027 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.
Chef de Mission Osafa Dos Santos will lead Guyana’s delegation, supported by Deputy Chefs de Mission Lennox Daniels and Mark Scott. Coaches and physiotherapists will also accompany the team to provide technical guidance and athlete support.
Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) Vice President Cristy Campbell and Secretary General Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon will represent the association at key South American Sports Organisation (ODESUR) meetings and official engagements during the Games.
The assignment comes amid an extensive program of international participation supported by the GOA this year. According to the association, more than 350 athletes and officials from over 12 sporting disciplines have received support to attend major regional and international competitions.
The GOA has identified these opportunities as part of its commitment to strengthening Guyana’s athlete-development pathway, with the 2027 Pan American Games and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games among its longer-term targets.
