GFF/GFA U17 Youth Ensemble-Sobers hat-trick leads Pele to commanding opening win

Ryan Sobers struck a hat-trick as Pele Football Club (FC) defeated Vengy 5–0 on Saturday at Parade Ground, Georgetown, where the GFF/GFA Youth Ensemble U17 tournament opened with convincing wins for Pele and Riddim Squad.
Riddim Squad beat Black Pearl 6–1 in the final match of the September 12 programme, while Beacon FC secured a walkover victory against Eastveldt FC.
Sobers was the standout scorer in the opening fixture, netting in the 55th, 58th and 80th minutes to help Pele make a strong start to the 2026 competition.
Dashawn Hopkinson had opened Pele’s account in the 32nd minute. Sobers then added two goals in quick succession before Samuel Iogo scored in the 70th minute. Sobers completed his treble with Pele’s fifth goal in the 80th.
The second scheduled match ended in a walkover for Beacon, who were awarded three points and three goals against Eastveldt.
In the closing encounter, Riddim Squad had six different scorers as they overcame an early equaliser to record the day’s highest-scoring victory.
Keshawn Henry put Riddim Squad ahead in the fourth minute, but Aluko Jervis brought Black Pearl level in the 10th. Jashawn Marshall restored Riddim Squad’s advantage in the 30th minute, before Inshan Alli extended the lead in the 47th.
Dequwan James added another in the 61st minute, followed by Malakai Gowen in the 67th and Gavin Towler in the 76th, completing the 6–1 result.
The league continues next Saturday at Parade Ground with three more matches.
