The inaugural Guyana Energy Conference and Exhibition (GEC-X ’21), which was originally scheduled for September 28 and 29, 2021, will now take place in February 2022 as a hybrid event.

GEC-X, which will be held under the theme “Powering the Future”, aims to move the energy discussion beyond oil and gas. The Conference is intended to bring together foreign and local investors and Government decision-makers in productive engagements to seek collaborations that will lead to transformative energy projects.
Commenting on the new date for the event, President of the GCCI, Timothy Tucker, said the Chamber has taken into consideration the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and as such, will move forward with a hybrid version of the event, which will now comprise a mix of in-person and virtual sessions.
GEC-X is being organised in partnership with several local companies and service providers, and is endorsed by the Government of Guyana.
The expo Guyana Energy Conference and Exhibition (GEC-X ’21) will place keen focus on Guyana’s energy mix as a means of transforming the South American country.
GEC-X ‘21 will primarily focus on the importance of local content development, local participation, and local companies working together not only in the development of the oil and gas industry, but in other industries as well.
At the launch of the Exposition back in February, it was stated that the conference is called ‘Energy Conference’ because there is a well-held view that our growth, development and transformation as a nation in the 21st century lie with our ability to produce and utilise cheaper energy, cleaner energy, and ultimately renewable sources of energy.
Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Office for Investment (GO-Invest), Dr. Peter Ramsaroop, had noted that the conference will bring together a mix of local businesses and foreign investors.
President of ExxonMobil Guyana, Alistair Routledge, said the company is pleased to be supporting GEC-X ’21. He pointed out that the conference will provide a useful opportunity for ExxonMobil to further inform and educate persons about its operations.
Also at the launch, Natural Resources Minister Vickram Bharrat has told an elite gathering that the conference is aligned with the Government’s focus on pursuing and developing an energy mix over the next few years.
He pointed out that the cost of power generation has been “a great hindrance” to Guyana’s development, and that is why Government is moving to address this as early as possible.
