Guyana’s archers secure podium finishes at Caribbean Championships

Guyana’s Nolan Gray captured gold in the Recurve Developmental Senior Men category, while Julie-Ann Williams secured bronze in the senior women’s recurve event as the individual finals of the Caribbean archery championships continued at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, on Saturday.
Gray defeated Trinidad and Tobago’s Carmino Dillon 6–0 in the gold-medal match to claim the developmental title. The Guyanese archer had earlier beaten Trinidad and Tobago’s Rudra Purshotam Sharma by the same score in the semi-finals to advance to the final.
Dillon secured his place in the gold-medal match after edging Guyana’s Sean Duncan 6–5 in a shoot-off following a tied semi-final. Duncan subsequently defeated Sharma 6–2 in the bronze-medal match to give Guyana another podium finish.
Williams also delivered a strong performance in the Caribbean Championship’s Recurve Senior Women division, recovering from a semi-final defeat to the US Virgin Islands’ Tatyana Muntyan to claim bronze. Muntyan defeated Williams 6–0 before going on to win the gold medal with a 6–0 victory over St Vincent and the Grenadines’ Karen Palmer.

The individual competition forms part of a historic double-header, with Guyana hosting the eighth Caribbean Development Championships alongside the inaugural Caribbean Archery Championships. The event has attracted athletes and officials from across the region and beyond, with competitors contesting recurve, compound and barebow disciplines across several age groups.
The championships continue on Sunday with team and mixed-team competition, as Guyana’s archers look to build on their individual performances on home soil.
