Guyana’s men exit singles as Edghill keeps campaign alive

Guyana’s male table tennis players suffered singles defeats against Brazilian and Argentine opposition at the XIII South American Games Santa Fe 2026, while Olympian Chelsea Edghill advanced to the women’s last 16.
Elishaba Johnson and Colin Wong both lost 4–0 to Brazilian opponents, while national men’s champion Shemar Britton was beaten by Argentina’s Santiago Lorenzo.

Guyana also recorded defeats in men’s and mixed doubles during a challenging spell against strong regional opposition.
Johnson’s campaign ended in the men’s singles Round of 32 against Leonardo Iizuka. Despite the straight-games defeat, he competed gamely against the Brazilian, gaining further experience at this level.
Wong fell to Guilherme Teodoro as he continued his transition from junior competition to the senior ranks. The appearance provided another opportunity for the young Guyanese player to test himself against established international opposition.
Britton faced a difficult assignment against the highly rated Lorenzo, who was competing on home soil. The Guyanese champion was unable to get past the Argentine.
In the men’s doubles Round of 16, Johnson and Britton took a game off Uruguay’s Palou and Timbal but could not build on that effort, losing the contest 3–1.
Britton also partnered Edghill in mixed doubles, where the Guyanese combination went down 3–1 to Lorenzo and Camila Argüelles of Argentina.
Edghill’s hard-fought women’s singles victory provided the positive result for Guyana, securing her place in the Round of 16 and keeping the country’s campaign moving forward.
Attention now turns to Edghill’s next single appearance.
