Guyana’s Paralympic Table Tennis Champion on a mission in Las Vegas

National Paralympic Table Tennis champion and world number 46 ranked Paralympic table tennis player level 10 Gibrain Safarz Hussein is currently in the United States of America Participating in the US Open Championships in Las Vegas.
A category 10 player who hails from Corentyne Berbice, Hussein is scheduled to play in the singles and team edition of the championships. He is drawn with Daybell Kim who is ranked number six in the world and Sam Huang of the USA to participate in the group stage for an opportunity of advancing to the round of 16. While in the team edition, he will be paired with two players from the USA Terrence Octavius and Metcalf Randal to take on Denmark and Puerto Rico
Hussein, a national Paralympic sports award winner is an ITTF level two coach who works with developing young players in the Corentyne is making his reintroduction into competitive play on the international circuit.

Guyana Achieving International Paralympic Committee status
With the advent of Guyana’s National Paralympic Committee which is headed by Wiltson Spencer and with the government of Guyana fulfilling the requirements to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to gain accreditation status, the way is now cleared for Guyana’s Paralympic athletes to compete in world international events and Olympic Cycle Paralympic games which has now become a feature of Olympic styles games.
This was an inhibitor which affected athletes such as Hussein from participating in the Pan American Rio Olympic games and other games in the past.
Of significance is that this clears the way for national federations to start developing programs for para athletes at different levels an area that is growing and for which Guyana can be very competitive on the world stage.
Gibrain Hussein, a prospect for the commonwealth games has his eyes set on being accepted to participate in the 2018 edition of the Commonwealth Games scheduled for April 2018 Gold Coast Australia Gold Coast Australia and in other games.
