Tony Rampersaud, 21, of Eteringbang, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), was on Wednesday charged with the capital offence of murder when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
It is alleged that on November 19, 2016 at Eteringbang Landing, he murdered Henry Mendonca, a Venezuelan national.
According to the facts, Rampersaud and Mendonca who both resided in Venezuela, came to Guyana on the day in question and were drinking at the Eteringbang Landing.
However, an argument ensued between the two and Rampersaud allegedly broke a bottle and stabbed Mendonca to his abdomen.
The injured man was taken to San Martin Hospital in Venezuela where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Rampersaud is scheduled to return to the Kamarang Magistrate’s Court on December 13, 2016.
