GVF mourns loss of former national player Shawn Sutherland
The Guyanese Volleyball fraternity was on Wednesday plunged into a state of mourning as news circulated about the death of former national player Shawn Sutherland.
The accomplished former player passed away on Sunday last in the United States. According to some sources, he was a victim of the deadly coronavirus, but this is yet to be confirmed by his relatives.
According to an official correspondence from the Guyana Volleyball Federation, Sutherland starting wearing the Guyana cap in the late 90s. He commenced his career with club Falcons of Canje, Berbice, then moved to Vikings of Blairmont in Berbice. Subsequently, he went on to represent the Vipers volleyball club of Georgetown.
During his playing career, the GVF noted, Sutherland was a very enthusiastic player and on numerous occasions would deploy his best efforts to ensure victory for his team.
The GVF, and by extension the entire volleyball fraternity, has taken time out to express heartfelt condolences to the relatives, friends, associates and co-players of the late Shawn Sutherland. May his soul rest in peace.
