Hamilton Green Cup, 9-a-side inter-ward football, concludes on Sunday

– teams urged to arrive by 3pm

Organisers of the Hamilton Green Cup, the 9-a-side inter-ward/ village knockout football tournament, have scheduled this Sunday as the new date to conclude this annual event, which previously had been postponed because of inclement weather. The finals will be played at the Den Amstel ground on the West Coast of Demerara.

According to Coordinator Lennox Arthur, preparation of the venue is currently ongoing for what is anticipated to be an exciting battle for the coveted first prize and trophy.
In the day’s opener, Mahaicony will attempt to overthrow Vreed-en-Hoop, then Soesdyke will clash with Liliendaal. In the third matchup, Mocha will engage Charlestown in their bid to enter the finals. Pouderoyen will then tackle Timehri, before Goed Fortuin squares off against De Kinderen. Bourda Blues will then duke it out with Sophia, before hosts Den Amstel Back Street take the field against Zeelugt. And Uitvlugt will see off Bagotville in the final game.

The quarter-final matchups will see the winner of game one battling the winner of game 5; the winner of game 2 taking on the winner of game 6; the winner of game 3 taking on the winner of 7, and the winner of game 4 locking horns with the winner of game 8.
The four survivors will then meet in the semi-finals to determine the two finalists.
The victorious team will take home $300,000 and the winning trophy, while the second placed finisher will collect $100,000 and a trophy.
