The Rotary Club of Georgetown Central in collaboration with the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) has commissioned public handwashing stations at the Stabroek Market Square in an effort to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

President of the Rotary Club of Georgetown Central, Andrew Boyle stated that the initiative was created with the aim of promoting handwashing at the Stabroek Market Square as a preventative measure to fight against the spread of the novel coronavirus.
“We have come together to help lower the curve. What we are trying to do is to encourage individuals; whether they are customers or vendors to wash their hands because it helps to lower the spread of coronavirus,” Boyle stated.
With the Stabroek Market Square being a busy commercial hub, Community Services’ Director of the Club, Jeffrey Walcott said the location for this handwashing station is fitting.
“It’s a convenient point for hundreds if not thousands of persons daily. There are people operating businesses, as well as commuters who are passing through the environment. Together with our partner GWI, we hope to roll out this initiative across the country. Primarily starting with the market areas. First in Georgetown and then moving further along the East Coast and East Bank.” Walcott explained.
The Rotary Club will be installing more handwashing stations across the country.
Rotary Club of Georgetown Central has been in existence for 36 years and has played a major role in executing projects geared towards community development.
