“He shot her 5 times” – mother of beauty technician breaks silence – Woman shot by ex-partner

The mother of a 27-year-old New Amsterdam beauty technician who was shot and beaten by her ex-partner on the East Bank of Berbice is now speaking out, revealing that her daughter was struck multiple times during the attack as she remains hospitalised awaiting surgery.
Vasanti Gordon, who was injured during the April 11 incident at Islington, Greater New Amsterdam, is currently admitted at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where she is expected to undergo surgery for injuries sustained to her legs.
Her mother, Kay Gordon, said she was told her daughter was shot several times during a confrontation with the suspect.

Injured: Vasanti Gordon

“He shot her five times… both her legs. I don’t know what else,” the distraught mother recounted.
According to Kay Gordon, she was not at home when the incident occurred and only learned of the shooting after receiving a call.
“I wasn’t at home… my husband called and told us about it,” she said.
The woman also expressed concern for her daughter’s safety, noting that the suspect remains at large.
“I’m not too satisfied with her being left alone… no police or anything. Because I don’t know if he can come back,” she said, adding that while she places her faith in God, she remains worried about what could happen next.
She further disclosed that her daughter, a mother of two children aged 10 and two, had recently ended her relationship with the suspect. However, she said she was unaware of any prior violence between the two.
“I know they were in a relationship… but I don’t know if they had any conflict before,” she explained.
The grieving mother said the family is now hoping for a full recovery, particularly that her daughter regains full use of her legs.
“I’m hoping that God can help her… that she could come out of the hospital with both legs working,” she said.
Police had initially reported that Gordon was seated in her motor car when the suspect approached armed with a handgun, discharged several rounds in her direction, and struck her on the head with the weapon.
Investigators recovered a spent shell from the vehicle as part of the ongoing probe.
The suspect, a 28-year-old man of Fort Ordinance Housing Scheme, East Canje, Berbice, is known to police and has been implicated in several high-profile matters. He is currently before the court in connection with a multi-million-dollar robbery at the Regional Democratic Council in Region Six.
He remains on the run as police continue their investigations.
