Hickerson reaches semi-finals at USTA junior championships

Young Guyanese tennis player Zion Hickerson produced an impressive run to the semi-finals of the United States Tennis Association Level Seven (USTA L7) August Championships Under-12 Boys tournament in Flushing, New York.
Hickerson topped his group with three victories, including a notable win over third seed William Lai, before narrowly losing to big-hitting Siyan Ni in a closely contested semi-final.
Ni won the match 5-3, but Hickerson showed determination after falling behind 0-2. The Guyanese player responded by winning three consecutive games to take a 3-2 lead.
Ni then levelled the contest at 3-3 before securing the final two games to advance.
The USTA tournament formed part of Hickerson’s preparation for the All In by Tsonga by Ten-Pro competition, which will be held from August 10 to 16, at Jo-Wilfried Tsonga’s tennis academy in Nice, France.
Hickerson is currently training with his childhood coach, Shelly Daly, at Prospect Park in New York as he continues preparations for the international tournament.
