High-speed chase unearths illegal firearm

A high-speed chase on Wednesday along the Corentyne Highway, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) involving the Police and an unregistered motorcycle has resulted in the discovery of a bag containing an illegal firearm.
The motorcycle reportedly sped past the Whim Police Station and was immediately pursued.

The components of a shotgun were found in a bag tossed from an illegal motorcycle

According to reports, an alert Police Officer saw two men riding along the Corentyne Highway on the motorcycle without any licence plates. At the time, a white bag was strapped to its side.
The officer realised that something was amiss and went after the bikers. In an attempt to evade the Police rank, the rider accelerated and turned onto a dam at Alness and headed towards the backdam.
The officer did not give up and followed them. However, after the two men realised that the Policeman was not giving up, one of them took the bag off the bike and tossed it onto the muddied dam.
The bag was retrieved and upon inspection, several components of a shotgun were found. All the parts, including the wooden stock, barrel, trigger mechanism and butt, had a serial number. The gun was lodged at the Whim Police Station as the Police continue the hunt for the two riders.
