Police ranks in D Division (West Bank Demerara-East Bank Essequibo) are on the hunt for a group of bandits who escaped during a high-speed chase on Wednesday after breaking into a vehicle on the East Bank of Essequibo (EBE).
According to reports, a building contractor had secured his vehicle in front of his Tuschen, EBE home on Tuesday night and retired to bed. However, on Thursday morning, he was alerted by a resident of the community that thieves had broken
into his vehicle and later escaped in another motorcar.
Upon checking the vehicle, the victim confirmed what he was told and discovered the amplifier, Pioneer tape deck and a crossover stolen.
The matter was reported and based on the description of the getaway car used by the bandits, the vehicle was spotted by ranks of a Police patrol on the La Parfaite Harmonie Public Road, West Bank Demerara.
This resulted in a high-speed chase during which the suspects’ car got stuck in a drain. However, the occupants abandoned the vehicle and managed to flee before the lawmen caught up.
“The area was searched but the suspects were not seen,” the Guyana Police Force said in a statement.
Nevertheless, the abandoned vehicle – a black Toyota Allion with registration plates PSS 3701 – was searched and all of the stolen articles were recovered.
The vehicle is presently lodged at the Leonora Police Station. Meanwhile, further investigations are ongoing.
