Hope Secondary, President’s College secure wins as YBG East Coast Regionals tip off

Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) got its East Coast “Country” regional competition underway on Thursday with a series of decisive results at the President’s College Hard Court in Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara.
Hope Secondary opened the tournament with a 16–11 victory over Good Hope Secondary in a closely contested encounter. Dion Moore delivered a standout performance, finishing with 16 points, four rebounds and four steals to earn Player of the Game honours. Kamello Foster was the top contributor for Good Hope, registering multiple steals in a solid defensive effort.
In the second game, Annandale Secondary produced the most one-sided result of the day, overwhelming Ann’s Grove Secondary 16–2. Tequan McRae led the charge with 16 points and five rebounds to secure Player of the Game recognition. Jonathan Bovell also made a strong impact for Annandale, contributing 11 points and three steals.
President’s College then delighted the home crowd with a 28–17 win over Plaisance Secondary in the final matchup. Terron Mohabir was named Player of the Game after recording 12 points and five steals, while Romarion Wolfe supported with 12 points in a balanced team effort.

Meanwhile, the Geo City Regionals also continued on Wednesday, with two exciting matchups at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH), Homestretch Avenue, as young talents showcased their skills on the court.

In the opening game, Christ Church Secondary School secured a commanding 19–5 victory over St Joseph High School. Damarie Burke led the charge for Christ Church, delivering an outstanding performance with 10 points and five rebounds to guide his team to victory.
He received solid support from teammate Jadel Liverpool, who contributed five points and dominated the boards with seven rebounds. Christ Church’s defensive intensity limited St Joseph’s scoring opportunities throughout the contest, allowing them to maintain control from start to finish.
In the second matchup, Queen’s College faced off against Chase Academic Foundation in a much-anticipated clash. Queen’s College emerged victorious with a 34–23 win in a competitive encounter.
Despite the loss, Chase Academic’s Sirr Sampson delivered a standout all-around performance. He tallied 16 points, grabbed seven rebounds, rejected seven shots, recorded three steals, and dished out one assist. His impressive stat line earned him Player of the Match honours.
The regional competition is being supported by sponsors including Edward B Beharry Ltd, G-Boats Inc., the National Sports Commission, the Ministry of Education, and Banks DIH Ltd.
