Housewife nabbed with bulletproof vest, fake money

A Corentyne, Berbice woman was on Tuesday arrested after ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) unearthed a quantity of counterfeit US currency and a bulletproof vest in her house during a raid.
Reports reaching Guyana Times revealed that acting on information received, CANU ranks went to the Lot 1805 Grant Crabwood Creek, Corentyne house of the 38-year-old housewife and conducted a search.
They subsequently discovered 25 US$100 bills and one US$50 bill, which were suspected to be counterfeit, along with a white bulletproof vest in the closet of the home. Additionally, searches of the premises unearthed two more sets of US$100 notes in the ceiling of the house.
Following the discovery, the 38-year-old suspect was subsequently taken into custody. She is being questioned in relation to the items found.
Meanwhile, the items have since been lodged at the Springlands Police Station, where the money was counted by CANU ranks before being handed over to the Police.
CANU Prosecutor Konyo Sandiford confirmed the bust to Guyana Times and explained that the matter had to be handed over to the Police since no narcotics were found during the operation.
