Humanitarian Mission trains 98 Berbicians to become entrepreneurs
Ninety-eight persons are now equipped with the necessary skills to earn additional income and for those who are not working – the skills to be able to set up their own businesses.
The 98 persons successfully completed six months’ training in information technology, cake decoration, garment construction and cosmetology.
The programme was held by the Humanitarian Mission of Guyana (HMG) and classes were held in Port Mourant, Babu Jaan, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
The Mission continues to put methods in place to enhance and empower the lives of Berbicians. The organisation’s aim is to break the cycle of poverty through education and skills training.
The programme seeks to create a level of entrepreneurship for the students.
Those who graduated are now eligible for a grant from the HMG to launch their own business.
Founder of the Mission, Suresh Sugrim told this publication that the goal of the programme is to enable persons to make a change in life since education is the key to unlock the door to success.
“A lot of individual who have been a part of this programme are now going well in life… Sitting down and now willing to make the change.”
He added that some of those who participated are persons with careers who just want to enhance themselves while others have already started their own businesses.
The Mission will fund equipment which might be needed if those who have completed the programme want to venture off into business.
In addition to that, arrangements will also be put in place for persons to receive grants to start up their own business.
