Hundreds of patrons, some as early as the night before lined up at the Guyana Amazon Warriors’ Camp Street box office to secure their Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2022 semi-finals and finals tickets on Tuesday.
On Monday, it was announced by the Hero CPL that additional tickets for the tournament’s knockout games and finals at the Guyana National Stadium would go on sale on Tuesday and fans did not waste any time.
At the Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) 233-234 Camp Street box office, one man was waiting with his chair in tow since 11 pm on Monday night, while others gathered as early as 3am on Tuesday to ensure they would be able to purchase their tickets for the games. Before the doors were opened at 9am, close to 500 persons were already waiting outside.
<<<Guyana Times Sport>>> caught up with one avid cricket fan, Johnny, who related that he has already secured tickets for the other games for himself and family, but has been eagerly awaiting the re-release of finals tickets.
“I was here like 4:30am, but when I come people was already here, plenty … like 48-49 people,” the fan told this publication on Tuesday.
He had this to say about wanting to arrive at the box office early, “Well, I come to catch the tickets early because I know is a big throwdown, people will keep space for more people and the line will get long. Instead of you in front, the line keep drifting back and that’s what happen.”
“I want deh in the first 50 selling.”
“I buy all the days’ tickets for me and my children them but I ain’t get finals. I want finals now,” Johnny said.
A little over an hour and a half after the box office opened its doors to Guyanese CPL fans, it was announced to patrons waiting outside that tickets made available by CPL for the final were now sold out.
Tickets for the final had a two per person limit, while for the knockout games, the limit was six per person. Additionally, only grass mound tickets for the final were available for purchase on Tuesday.
When quizzed about the number of tickets that were made available to the local box office, CPL’s Chris Watson verified to Guyanese media operatives, “Thousands of tickets across the four playoff games were made available at the box office, including a significant amount for the final.”
