Home News “Hungry man” gets 18 months for attempted armed robbery
Emanuel Blair appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly on Friday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where he was slapped with an attempted armed robbery charge.
Police stated that on February 22, 2021, he attempted to commit a felony, that is robbery under arms.
Blair pleaded guilty to the charge and explained that he attempted to commit the robbery since he did not have any money and was hungry.
He further begged for leniency and pleaded with Magistrate Daly for bail. Nevertheless, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
According to the Police prosecutor’s facts on the case, on the day in question, the victim was sitting on a bridge when he was approached by Blair, who was armed with a cutlass.
Blair reportedly placed the cutlass to the victim’s neck and demanded that he hand over his valuables while threatening to kill him.
However, during his attempt to escape, public-spirited citizens had risen an alarm and Blair was chased by a Police patrol. He was arrested in East Ruimveldt and positively identified by the victim. As such, he was charged and subsequently sentenced.
Meanwhile, Seyon James, 25, of Lamaha, Georgetown, also appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to answer to a robbery with violence charge that was committed on Freddy Mareno.
The charge stated that on February 24, in Georgetown, James while in the company of others Robbed Freddy Mareno of one cellphone valued $15,000. James pleaded not guilty and was granted bail on the sum of $40,000. The matter has been adjourned to March 19, 2021.
