Man granted bail for breaching COVID-19 restrictions

Nigel Persaud found himself before Magistrate Leron Daly after he allegedly breached the COVID-19 national curfew.
The charges alleged that on February 19, at Kingston, Georgetown, Persaud hosted a wake exceeding 100 persons, causing danger to health.
Persaud pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him but not before giving the court an explanation. Persaud told the court that he was sharing some drinks at the wake and was arrested. He further claimed that he never hosted the wake.
He was granted bail in the sum of $10,000 and is expected to return to Court on April 9, 2021.
Back in January of this year, Clive Nobrega of Christianburg, Wismar, Linden, was sentenced to two weeks’ imprisonment by Magistrate Wanda Fortune after he was found guilty of the offence of breach of restriction on social activities.
Nobrega made his final appearance at the Linden Magistrate’s Court, where he was charged with hosting a private party on January 24, 2021, at Blueberry Hill, Wismar, Linden.
Nobrega had previously appeared before Magistrate Wanda Fortune on January 25, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge and was placed on $30,000 bail.
Authorities continue to crack down on persons who violate the national curfew and restrictions on social activities put in place as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
