Husband charged for wife’s murder

The reputed husband of 18-year-old Lorenda Thomas, who was brutally beaten and later died, was on Friday slapped with a murder charge and appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.

(Barima-Waini) was charged for killing Thomas on January 18, at Baramita.
Thomas, a mother of one, met her demise when she was allegedly attacked by her 47-year-old reputed husband and beaten unconscious after which she was left on the road corner in an unconscious state.
The woman after regaining consciousness went to a relative’s home where she relayed what happened to her family members.
The following morning, after complaining of pains in her abdomen and of feeling weak, she was taken to a health centre in Baramita where she was admitted for treatment.
She was scheduled to be transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation for further treatment but succumbed to her injuries.
A wanted bulletin was issued for Dhanraj and he was apprehended a week later.
He was remanded to prison and is expected to make his next court appearance at the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court on February 6.
