Imlach eager to put preparations to the test against Sri Lanka

West Indies Select XI captain Tevin Imlach is looking forward to returning to competitive action when his side faces Sri Lanka in a four-day warm-up match beginning today at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua.
The Guyanese wicketkeeper-batsman said he has spent recent weeks working on his game but has not had many opportunities to assess his progress because of a lack of match time in Guyana due to persistent rain.
“I’ve been working on my game, but I haven’t been able to put it into practice because we haven’t had much match time in Guyana because of the rain,” Imlach said.
The upcoming fixture, which runs from June 18-21, will provide the right opportunity to see how those improvements stand up in a competitive environment.
“I’m looking to put the work to the test in this game,” he added.
Imlach is one of four Guyanese selected in the West Indies Select XI squad. He is joined by fast bowler Nial Smith, all-rounder Keemo Paul and wicketkeeper-batsman Kemol Savory.
The match forms part of Sri Lanka’s preparations for their upcoming Test series in the Caribbean and gives several regional players the chance to impress against international opposition.
Alongside Imlach, the Select XI squad includes Joshua Bishop, Jonathan Drakes, Karima Gore, Alzarri Joseph, Brandon King, Kirk McKenzie, Keemo Paul, Kemol Savory, Ojay Shields, Nial Smith, Gilon Tyson and Kevin Wickham.
For the Guyanese captain, the fixture represents an important chance to return to the middle after an extended period of limited cricket and to assess the work he has been putting in away from competition.
