Inmate busted with ganja at Lusignan Prison

A prisoner who is serving a 12-year jail sentence for rape was on Wednesday busted with 190 grams of ganja at the Lusignan penitentiary.

The improvised weapons and contraband found during a prison raid in August

Based on information gathered, prison officials on duty at the correctional facility observed an inmate acting in a suspicious manner.
As such, a search was conducted on his person during which a transparent plastic bag with the illegal substance was unearthed. The matter was reported to the Police and an investigation was launched.
The substance was weighed in the presence of the suspect and amounted to 190 grams. The smuggling of contraband into the prison remains a major challenge for the prison authorities. These items include mobile phones, drugs, and improvised weapons.
In August, prison authorities unearthed more than 100 improvised weapons along with other contraband items following the murder of an inmate, 40-year-old Aldryn Adonis.
It was reported that Adonis and four other inmates were involved in a fight which resulted in him being chopped to his head, chest, hands, and feet.

Reports are that the victim was in bay two while the suspects were in bay one. On the day in question, the victim jumped the fence which separates the two bays. While in bay one, an argument ensued between himself and the four suspects. Thereafter, a fight erupted, resulting in Adonis being severely chopped.
He was taken to the medical outpost at the prison and then escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition. He later succumbed to his injuries.
