Mechanic, family terrorised, robbed during home invasion

A mechanic and his family were on Wednesday evening terrorised and robbed by three armed men who invaded their Recht-Door-Zee, West Bank Demerara (WBD) home.
One of the men was armed with a silver hand gun, another with a cutlass, and the third with a knife.
Police in a statement revealed that on the day in question about 19:50h, the mechanic was standing in his veranda when the three men confronted him after reportedly gaining entry to the premises by scaling a perimeter fence.
The mechanic was held at gunpoint by one of the men and ordered into the house as the two others instructed his wife and children to go into the living room. The victims were all tied up as the men demanded cash and other valuables.
Fearful for his life and those of his family, the mechanic took the men into his bedroom and handed over $300,000 in cash. However, he was then beaten about the body by the armed men who demanded jewellery.
The men then ransacked the home and carted off several cell phones, laptop computers, tablets and a quantity of gold jewellery.
Following the ordeal, the mechanic managed to free himself and raised an alarm. He was subsequently taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH) where he treated for wounds to his head and sent away. A report was made to the Police and an investigation is underway. Up to press time, no arrests had been made.
