Inter-Schools Kayaking Competition: NGSS see good returns on inaugural participation
During their first-ever participation in the third annual Inter-Schools Kayaking Competition on May 5, 2024, at the Watooka Guest House, Linden, North Georgetown Secondary School (NGSS) achieved noteworthy performances.
Breann Ritchie, with her determination, secured first place in the females’ Under-14 category, ahead of Linden Foundation’s Nicosia James in second and Walburg Secondary Sisi Sampon in third.
Head of Physical Education of North Georgetown, Brandee Douglas, in an exclusive comment with <<<Guyana Times Sport>>>, divulged that determination and willingness were the keys to their success last week.
Douglas shared, “I guess the determination and willingness of the students, we would have gotten some practice time. I think the students’ determination and it was a good experience for the children for the first time. In terms of the next preparations, I guess some practice and students’ willingness to take part in the event.”
Douglas went on to expound that the win has motivated other teammates to do well in future competitions.
“It has motivated the students again, hoping that the students will go forward again, given most of the members of the team are fourth formers and third formers and one Grade 8, so yes it motivates the rest. They were all excited when their teammate would have done well,” Douglas expounded.
Linden Foundation, with their ability to move swiftly through the water, finished the competition with 71 points and walked away with the $400,000 first prize.
Harmony Secondary had posed a threat to the title winners, but had to settle for second place and $250,000; while 2023 Champions Kwakwani Secondary finished in third with 56 points and took home $150,000.
