Jaguars, Canada ready to battle today at Providence
Guyana’s National Football Team, the Golden Jaguars and the visiting Canadian Football team are all set for
the highly anticipated international friendly at the National Stadium, Providence today.
Players from both teams were guests of the Canadian High Commissioner to Guyana, His Excellency Pierre Giroux who hosted a simple reception at his residence.
Both captains expressed readiness ahead of the clash which both teams are treating with all seriousness.
Newly installed Golden Jaguars Captain Collin Nelson expressed confidence in the team’s preparation and eagerness to execute plans.
“We are approaching the game with the same intensity as another game and this game is in preparation of the Curacao stage which is the next two weeks so we are planning to come out with high intensity to attract the home fans,” Nelson said.
Nelson’s counterpart, Maxime Crépeau, also expressed similar sentiments and stated that his team will be able to adapt to the conditions. `
“Guyana is a good football nation. As a group we became tighter a couple of days before the game, to go about how we can improve ourselves before the game offensively, breaking their system and working on ours.” Crepeau explained.
He added that “the team is prepared to deal with the conditions that prevail in Guyana as they are experienced players.”
The Canadian High Commissioner Pierre Giroux said that the reason behind holding the event is as an appreciation of the strong ties Canada and Guyana share throughout history.
While Director of Sport Christopher Jones revealed that game has great significance to Guyana’s 50th Independence anniversary celebrations as it is was a plan from the inception to have International football as part of the Jubilee celebrations.
Milo Under-20 champs Chase Academy will play against Digicel Schools Champions Christianburg/Wismar Secondary School from 16:00 Hrs which is followed by the mega clash between Guyana and Canada from 19:00 Hrs.
